ARD Training…

Setup

  • What are the appropriate ranges to scan for at each of the buildings?

  • Can I setup a double-click to launch the session rather than open the settings of the device?

Common Tasks

  • Drag and Drop Files between computers

  • Rename a Computer

  • Shutdown/Restart Computers

  • Open Applications

ARD Commands and scripts (user should always be root)….

  • To force a filewave client verify sudo fwcontrol client restart - user: root

  • To login on a computer with login and password

  • To login on a computer where user is selected and then prompted for password

  • To change local users passwords  (this will done by district via Filewave)

  • To Repair Disk Permissions (Machine cannot go to sleep. Can keep machine on “Observe” in ARD)

  • Open Application by Script: open /Applications/Online\ Assessment/Online\ Assessment.app

(Drag Application into Terminal to get full command).  User should be set as “root”

  • How to use previously used scripts and commands - Go to history

Other Questions

  • ARD vs VNC in Safari

    • vnc://ipaddress

  • ARD vs Filewave - when do I use this tool and when should I call ESC to ask for something pushed out over filewave

  • When would I use the “open items” command vs open application?

  • When scanning by range why do all computers not show even though you know they are on and not sleeping?

  • Why do some computers show up as screen sharing in ARD?
